By Peter Ssebanakitta

Carving Eagles, Shaping Generations is a biography of Brother Anthony Kyemwa, one of the most influential educators in the history of St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK). The book is authored by Prof. Steven Kaddu (lead author) and Eng. Peter Ssebanakitta (co-author).
The story is set mainly in the 1960s–1980s, a formative period in Uganda’s education system and in the life of SMACK. It traces Brother Anthony’s life as a member of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, his rise in educational leadership, and his tenure as headmaster during a time of major social and national change.
Brother Anthony is portrayed as a disciplined but humane leader who believed education was about character formation, moral integrity, faith, service, and academic excellence—not just passing exams. Through personal memories, institutional history, and reflection, the book shows how his leadership shaped generations of students who later became leaders and professionals.
The idea for the book began with Prof. Kaddu’s plan to write a newspaper article about Brother Anthony. As memories and conversations accumulated, it became clear that his story deserved a fuller and more permanent record. The book was written to preserve his legacy, document an important era in Ugandan education, and pass those values on to future generations.
It is available for sale at UGX 50,000 only from the authors.
